Sister Mary's Easter Recitation
and subsequent Resurrection

I
Under the twilight willow
my sister weeps--
abandoned there
without a mother's care

alone.

crumpled face
and ruffled hair
dappled sun lit
treescape of fears
and tears
II
now folded: a fetus–regressed
busy thumb and tongue
a wee baby's heart murmuring
another child unblessed.

Between a peek and a boo
she searches
no openings in ring-around-the-rosie
she all falls down,
and down.
and down.
no access in hopscotch or playing house;
no ropes to jump, and
and, so she searches,--quiet as a mouse
stumbles upon the rainbow's end -- alas,
no Finnegan-- no Finnegan to begin it all over again.

III
Deep echoes--a liturgy stirs
arms raised
tender healing voices
singing hosannas and praise.
ancient recitations now anew

options and challenges
stains on glass, service
choices clarify and by

open
-ing

Sister Mary mends:
Unfolding,
born again in pain
first a whispering, tentative soul,
then necessary flesh
and bone!

Smiling, Gleaming, Rejoicing
while
steadfast
sweet Jesus welcomes her home.
